Located on the Hartland Peninsula in North Devon, Downe provides a magical wedding venue set in over ten acres of landscaped grounds with beautiful views over the Atlantic looking west and to Lundy Island looking north. It is a truly breathtaking location, one of the South West’s most beautiful.
Downe is nearly half a mile away from the nearest neighbours in any direction and the gardens are bordered by open fields and woods looking west and north over the Atlantic. It is an idyllic piece of Devon.
One of the attractions of a wedding at Downe is that the wedding party has exclusive use of the public areas at Downe, the cottages and the courtyard. This ensures that the wedding at Downe is a very intimate affair for family and friends. This exclusivity is at the heart of Downe’s appeal as a wedding location. There is something very special about a wedding which runs over two or three days with the wedding party in total possession of the location!
Downe has the following locations & venues for a civil wedding, wedding reception and wedding breakfast:
- The Atlantic Room – a split-level room with seating for up to one hundred guests for the wedding ceremony.
- The Conservatory – a large Edwardian style conservatory with seating for up to fifty guests for the wedding ceremony.
- The Garden Room – a small stone built folly in the gardens that provides both a licensed location for those wanting to get married in the open air and an intimate location for weddings with seating for up to ten guests.
- Marquee Receptions – There are a number of locations in the gardens at Downe for a Marquee.
Accommodation is available at Downe in eight luxury cottages with a total of twelve double bedrooms each of which is en suite. The cottages form a delightful courtyard setting with the Conservatory and Downe House.
Downe is located within a mile of St Nectan’s Church in Stoke. Known as “the Cathedral of North Devon”, because of the height of its bell tower, this thirteenth century church provides a beautiful location for a church wedding.
Additional services that are available at Downe include beauty and holistic therapies and Pamper Days in the Health Spa. Downe also offers a make up service for brides and bridesmaids.
